Cynthia Gamble is known internationally for her writing and lecturing on Marcel Proust, John Ruskin, the Belle Epoque and related areas. She enjoys working in an Anglo-French environment and her interdisciplinary publications reflect this.

Cynthia became a Francophile from the moment she experienced her first French lesson at Bridgnorth Grammar School in rural Shropshire, England, and decided immediately that she wanted to teach French. She pursued her studies at London University and at the université de Grenoble in the French Alps. She has wide experience of teaching and lecturing in Britain and abroad. She is Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Exeter, and Chairman of the Ruskin Society. She now lives in London.
